Sun, surf, sea sand and serenity
The community of the South Coast is as colourful and diverse as the landscape and is friendly and laid back – some say too laid back. They know how to enjoy life and visitors are made to feel welcome and they slip easily into the relaxed, carefree, outdoor lifestyle that the South Coast is famous for. With its enviable climate and warm surf temperatures, forests, rolling hills and all-year round sunshine, this makes the South Coast one of the prime holiday destinations in Southern Africa.
The coastal towns offer visitors every type of beach and ocean related activities, from surfing and tanning to deep sea fishing and scuba diving. One of the most exciting annual events is the Sardine Run, where hundreds of thousands of sardines make their way up the coast, getting caught in coves and beaching themselves, take a drive along the coastline to spot them and get in on the action, it’s heaps of fun, especially for the youngsters.
During the winter months, the South Coast is visited by thousands of bottlenose dolphins, which have migrated up the coast from the Cape. This migration occurs at the same time as the annual sardine run and is a major attraction to the area.
This region is known for its many lively coastal towns, perfect beaches and excellent fishing spots. The area also has many nature reserves where game viewing and bird watching are abundant. It is fun for the kids and the adults, the South Coast has everything you need, sun, surf and sightseeing galore.
